What is trauma processing?
As humans our brains naturally process everything that happens to us each day and stores it in our memories. However sometimes things happen which overwhelm our systems and we are unable to fully process. These things become ‘stuck’ in active in our brains. Every time we think of such a memory we feel the same emotions, body sensations, and painful and unhelpful thoughts about ourselves, others, and the world. When we process through the painful memory, we actually ‘heal’ the trauma so that the memory becomes stored more like other memories—they can move into ‘the past.’ We no longer struggle with the related flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, and difficult emotions.

& Flash
What is Flash?
Flash is another method for processing trauma which we can also use in a regular therapy session. Flash heals trauma in a way overall similar to EMDR. However, with EMDR you are consciously thinking about the trauma whereas with Flash you do not have to. Once we identify the target memory to process, we focus on something neutral or pleasant while tapping and blinking at intervals. Flash can be extremely useful for processing memories which are too painful to even think about.

What is EMDR?
EMDR is a type of therapy using eye movements, tapping, or other forms of bilateral stimulation to help you move through a traumatic memory. We do EMDR during your regular session and only at such time as you are ready to do the work. EMDR has been extensively researched and proven to be highly effective.
